Honor Salute: World War II Veteran Alfred Anderson

HonorSalute AlfredAndersonTo most, D-Day is just a story in a history book, but not for Private First Class Alfred Anderson. He was part of the second wave of troops that landed on the beaches of Normandy, France in 1944. Alfred and the rest of the troops in that wave made landfall at 6:30 a.m. on June 6, 1944, 30 minutes after the first wave.

D-Day was part of PFC Anderson’s career in the United States Army. He enlisted when he was 17 years old and was giving the rank of Private First Class. Throughout his career, PFC Anderson served in Germany (the picture on the right in the above photo is of him standing in the snow in Germany), Belgium, and France. Always being a small man, he mentioned how heavy his coat and all his gear were, and how tired it made him to trudge through the countryside in the snow.

Community Nursing Services was honored to recognize PFC Anderson, a hospice patient from our Logan branch, through the CNS Honor Salute Program, presenting him with a Certificate of Appreciation and more.
