Each year, the Junior League of Salt Lake City hosts a Community Assistance and Resource Event (CARE) Fair aimed at providing routine medical, dental, and vision services to those who need it most. This aligns perfectly with Community Nursing Services (CNS) and our mission to provide compassionate care regardless of a person’s ability to pay, so the CNS Immunizations Department was thrilled to take part in the CARE Fair last week. From young children and students needing to catch up on vaccines to adults looking for the protection immunizations provide, CNS Immunizations was ready to help individuals and families who often face major barriers like time, language, and financial constraints to receive important healthcare like this.
One such household helped was a family fostering a girl from overseas, where vaccine requirements are different than here in the United States. In order to start school here, the girl needed eight vaccinations, but the family was facing some challenges and potential high costs to get those immunizations. Due to rules within the foster care system and eligibility restrictions on government health programs, the girl was not eligible for the mother’s insurance or government healthcare. CNS Immunizations was able to step in and help, providing the much-needed vaccinations for the family.
