Community Nursing Services - CNS Employees Share Their “Whys”

At CNS, exceptional patient care begins with an extraordinary team dedicated to making a difference every day. From skilled clinicians to the office staff who keep CNS running smoothly, our team combines expertise with genuine compassion. It’s not just about what they do – it’s about why they do it. Every member of our team shares a passion for serving patients and supporting families when it matters most. Six CNS employees from different roles share why they love working for CNS and doing this important work.

Aaron Spiker, RN:

EmployeeWhys story 01Twenty-five five years ago I lost my job. I had a young, large family, and it was a difficult moment in our lives. I took the time to reevaluate where my passions lie and decided I wanted a new career where every single day I had the opportunity to serve others in meaningful ways. I went back to college and became a Registered Nurse. Best career decision I've ever made.

I've worked for CNS off and on throughout my nursing career. It has always been a great experience. Believe me when I say that CNS understands and delivers Home Health and Hospice better than most. I'm not saying we are perfect. I am however saying that CNS tries hard to provide the very best care to both our patients and us, the staff. In my 20-plus years I've seen a lot. I feel very fortunate to work with CNS.

So, I work for CNS because they provide the very best access to and support for what I enjoy most … serving others in need and truly making a difference, every single day. The experiences I've had are many, much more than I could put in writing. But that smile and that hug and that sincere "thank you" from a patient or family member who I got to serve in some small way fills my heart with gratitude and keeps me coming back for more. I greatly appreciate CNS for the support I receive and for facilitating these passions I've tried to pursue over the past 20 or so years. It’s a great place to hang your hat.

Michelle Murdock:

I love this job as it is such a rewarding feeling being able to help the people that fought for our country, whether they don't have family or friends to help them or they simply can't drive after certain procedures, to show our thanks and we get to meet nice interesting people and get feeling of kind of giving back to our brave vets, I knew this was my calling after my 1st visit, and I’m thankful I can be a part of this wonderful team.

Jocelyn Christensen:

EmployeeWhys story 02I am thankful to have a job with CNS. I believe everyone should have access to quality healthcare and education about their health conditions. As a nonprofit organization, we are able to provide that care to everyone, regardless of insurance or lack thereof. I loved being a field clinician, providing direct patient care to both home care and hospice patients and families. I enjoyed teaching people how to manage their health conditions at home. I now love helping to provide guidance to the current field clinicians in my branch and ongoing education opportunities for them. One thing I will never forget is being approached at a gas station by a tall, fit man and being asked "Do you remember me?" I cared for him when he was very ill at home and through our help, he was able to make a full recovery. He was incredibly grateful for the help from CNS.

Gary Bunce:

I was hired as a part-time Chaplain in April 2025. I retired back in April 1, 2024, following a lengthy career in public safety (911 Operator for 13 years and law enforcement officer for 21 years). It was a fulfilling career, and I learned many helpful skills and abilities.

I was recruited by CNS for my current role. I love working for CNS for many reasons. CNS offers a very positive, team-oriented atmosphere, which fosters respect for one another. I enjoy working with every member of our team. CNS staff are well trained, dedicated, compassionate, and provide the best possible care for patients. I was welcomed very warmly from the onset of employment, which exemplifies the CNS branding.

I love working and interacting with the patients. Their experiences provide me with an understanding of how I might best serve them. In my short time of service, I have had many, many experiences that have impacted my life. I realize my work truly matters when patients request return visits and are eager to share their lives with me.

My why is the opportunity to incorporate my love for people and share my talents and abilities with my patients. My ability to serve them is a blessing to me. I thoroughly enjoy working for such a wonderful company.

Leslie Remy:

EmployeeWhys story 04Why do I love working at CNS?

I must, after being here for 25 years!!

I love my job because it gives me both flexibility and a real sense of purpose. I get to grow, learn new things, and challenge myself that keep me engaged and motivated. I genuinely believe in our company's mission, and it feels good knowing the work I do makes a meaningful impact on the bigger picture.

What really makes this job special is the people. I'm surrounded by coworkers and leaders who are supportive, encouraging, and appreciative of the effort I put in. There’s a true sense of community and teamwork here, and it’s comforting to work with people I respect and trust – people who make my day better and often make me smile.

The work-life balance is another huge part of why I love my job. Being able to work remotely helps me manage responsibilities, stay present for my family, and still build a career I'm proud of. It gives me the space to take care of my personal life without sacrificing my professional goals.

Overall, I love that this job aligns with my values, supports my growth, and surrounds me with people who lift me up. It's a place where I feel challenged, appreciated and genuinely happy to contribute.

Mike Skousen:

I like working at CNS because of all the great, amazing, wonderful people.
