Celebrating Our Dedicated Volunteers: Aksel Anderson & Melissa Southwick

We are thrilled to highlight two of our outstanding volunteers, Aksel Anderson and Melissa Southwick, who were recognized with a Heart & Hands Award at Utah Philanthropy Day. This prestigious honor is given to those whose volunteer work makes a lasting impact on their organizations' missions. Aksel and Melissa are shining examples of selflessness, compassion, and dedication in hospice care, and we are proud to celebrate their contributions.

Aksel Anderson joined CNS Hospice in March 2023 and has been a steady, dependable presence ever since. He has consistently visited the same patient, offering companionship and support each week. Aksel’s commitment goes beyond just showing up; he is meticulous in his documentation and consistently goes the extra mile to ensure his patient feels cared for and valued. In a heartfelt note expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to volunteer, Aksel said, “Every time I visit Thomas, I am thankful for CNS and all that you do to make these experiences possible for me. I have learned so much about end-of-life care, and I have learned so much about myself along the way. This truly has been my most meaningful experience in healthcare.” Aksel’s passion for hospice care and his dedication to his patient, Thomas, reflect the qualities that make him an exceptional volunteer. With a future in the medical field, Aksel is sure to become an outstanding doctor, bringing the same compassion he has shown in his hospice work to his future patients.

Melissa Southwick, a volunteer since March 2023, has brought love and warmth to countless hospice patients. She has been visiting her current patient for several months and has made a profound difference in their life through her unique presence and sincere heart. Melissa always brings her best self to every visit, ensuring that her patient’s final days are as peaceful and meaningful as possible. Her dedication to providing companionship and care highlights the profound impact of volunteers in our hospice community.

Both Aksel and Melissa embody the values of the Heart & Hands Award: giving selflessly, making meaningful contributions, and being true partners in fulfilling the mission of hospice care. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and are honored to recognize them for their unwavering support of our patients and families.

We sincerely thank Aksel, Melissa, and all of our volunteers for their tireless efforts. You are truly making a difference, and we are proud to have you on our team.
