Embracing Memories: The Heartfelt Journey of the CNS Memorial Ornament Program
The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and the spirit of giving. This year, the CNS Charitable Care Program, in collaboration with the Andes A-Z Helping Hands Fund, the Cambia Health Foundation, and 120+ volunteers, brought warmth and solace to more than 1,100 families across Utah through our annual CNS Memorial Ornament Program.
The CNS Memorial Ornament Program provides families with a way to remember their lost loved ones by gifting them a memorial ornament. This year's memorial ornaments, handcrafted by renowned glass artist Sarinda Jones from kiln-formed glass, exhibit exceptional artistry and thoughtful craftsmanship. The calming blues and teals, coupled with a crystallized texture, lend an elegant and comforting touch to each piece, creating special tokens of remembrance and solace for recipients.
Volunteers assembled ornaments and mailed them out to 1,100 families throughout Utah right before this year’s holiday season, which can be an especially difficult time for families.
A recipient from this year’s Memorial Ornament Program personally expressed gratitude to our donors, stating, “My mother died in July of this year. We had been in hospice since the end of May, although we had been enjoying CNS services for years. I was so touched by this gift. I ordered another dozen for family members. This is a real piece of art that I will keep up year-round..”
Corporate Compassion in Action: Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah Steps Up
Making 1,100 ornaments is a ton of work, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible volunteers. In a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility, 60 staff members from Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah dedicated their time to assembling 500 personalized ornaments during a three-hour service project. Their involvement exemplifies a shared commitment to the community and the recognition of the importance of supporting those navigating the challenges of loss.
"Our employees were not just assembling ornaments; they were investing their time and hearts into bringing comfort to grieving families. The love for this program was palpable, and it truly brought our team closer together," expressed Kayla Norman, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Cambia Health Solutions.
Community Bonds: Volunteers Joining Hands for a Meaningful Cause
In addition to the dedicated corporate volunteers, 60 CNS volunteers and supporters gave their time to assemble the remaining 600 ornaments. As Christmas music filled the air, volunteers shared personal stories of loss, creating a space for mutual understanding and support. Each volunteer had experienced the pain of losing a family member, spouse, or parent, creating a shared empathy that made the ornament assembly even more meaningful.
Embracing Grief and Finding Support
The outpouring of kind notes from families who received the ornaments reinforced the profound impact of this meaningful gesture. The CNS Memorial Ornament Program serves as a reminder that the support provided by hospice care extends beyond the passing of a loved one, offering ongoing bereavement care for those left behind.
"People are already navigating so much with grief, and the holiday season can intensify those emotions. It's a poignant reminder to approach one another with compassion and understanding during this challenging time." - Kayla Norman, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Cambia Health Solutions.
Continuing the Journey: Support for Those in Need
Grief is a complex and personal experience, and CNS is dedicated to helping individuals navigate this challenging terrain. For those seeking emotional support or resources to cope with loss, CNS is here for you. Our commitment extends beyond the ornament program; we are devoted to assisting families through every step.
